Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kerr Brothers Funeral Home - Harrodsburg Road from Oct. 13 to Oct. 14, 2022.

Publish in a newspaper

Dr. James W. Templin, caring husband of Jamie Baird Templin, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, October 9, 2022, surrounded by his loving family at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Kentucky. He was 79. Born in 1943 in Lexington, Kentucky, he was the son of the late James Milton and Elizabeth Wehrle Templin. He grew up an avid University of Kentucky sports fan with a huge heart. He was always affable and always wore a contagious smile; his high school nickname was "shines'' because he smiled so much. He attended the University of Kentucky, where he met his true love and future wife and earned degrees from the College of Business, College of Law, and College of Medicine. He went into medicine to serve others, which allowed him to show the Lord's love to a world in need. He ran his own private medical practice for many years and was the primary physician at Jif, Atochem, and Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital, to name a few. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during Operation Desert Storm as a member of the 475th MASH Unit of the Kentucky National Guard. He also joyfully served as a missionary to Argentina, China, and Kenya. He loved the Lord, his wife and family, his friends, his nurses and patients, and University of Kentucky basketball. Along with his wife of 51 years, he is survived by four adult children: Jason (Christine) Templin, Spencer (Samantha) Templin, Jocelyn (Brandon) Acuff, and Katie Templin (Thomas Marshall); twenty-two grandchildren: Abby, Isaac, Hannah, Grace, Emma, Clara Joy, Gloria, Chloe, Briar Rose, Beau, Beckam, Bridgette, Jackson, JD, Jorgiana, Cora, Elizabeth, Olivia, Jude, Willem, Caleb, and Silas; and two nephews: Chris Howse and James Michael Howse. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Howse; a brother-in-law, Dr. James L. Howse; and 2 beloved dogs, Sancho and Buddy. Visitation will be 4-8PM Thursday at Kerr Brothers on Harrodsburg Road. Funeral services will be at 11AM Friday at Church of the Savior on Brannon Road. Burial will follow at 1:30PM at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Kentucky, with full military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Firewind Ministries, 1218 Oakhill Road, Ozark, Missouri, 65721, or Friends of the Good Samaritan, PO Box 838, Stanford, Kentucky, 40390.

Dr. Templin was my pain Dr for years at Good Samaritan before he left for Cardinal Hill. I was about 30 years old and working construction still because of his care. I had a fall and tore my Achilles and Noone coul find in time what it was. They only xrayed my ankle at home in Ashland. I couldn't walk from 03 thru 06 over 20ft before my leg would go numb. I'm 51 now and Dr. Templin helped me get disability. I've suffered still as of today and wish he was my Dr. Still. He helped and taught me so much.
RIP Dr. James Templin.

I worked with Jim at Allied Corporation in the 80´s as an Industrial Hygienist. I regularly visited the plant where he was the Medical Director. He was a pleasure to work with and always available to consult and support the Health and Safety Staff. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. We are traveling and looking for stops near lifetime friends, and he certainly was one.
