James Walko Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Daniels & Hutchison Funeral Home - Middletown on Mar. 13, 2026.
James A. Walko, age 73, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, surrounded by his family.

Jimmy was born on November 21, 1952, in Philadelphia, PA, the youngest son of the late John and Veda Treece Walko. Raised in Landsdale, PA, he graduated from North Penn High School before enlisting in the Navy in 1970. He was stationed in Keflavik, Iceland, where he maintained electrical equipment for Naval Air. He always spoke with pride of his time in the service and shared fond memories of serving his country.

Jimmy was a loyal husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was helpful, kind, and could fix anything. For Jimmy, family came first. His legacy lives on through his wife, Jamie Walko, Daughter, Jenny Grady; his son-in-law, Christopher Grady; his grandchildren, Jacey and Christopher James, Sister, Joan, and Jay Houser; his brother, John, and Barbara Walko; and everyone he has impacted.

Jimmy was a man of many talents who had a work-hard and play-harder attitude. From mechanic to plumber, pipefitter, to grocery manager, he wore many hats with pride. His fondest memories came from his time in the produce industry at Third Base Produce and as a dedicated member of the Willey's work family.

Softball and baseball were a huge part of Jim's life. He loved playing softball, coaching Jenny's teams, and never missed a weekend of travel ball. A loyal Phillies and Eagles fan, he always had the game on. He found joy in simple pleasures, ice cream, bowling, camping, fishing, dancing, and spending time at the beach. Some of his happiest times were spent enjoying coffee by the pool watching the sunrise, and jamming to music at festivals, especially the Philadelphia Folk Festival.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 6, 2026, from 11- 12:30 with a service beginning at 12:30 pm. Visitation and services will be at Daniel and Hutchison Funeral Home, 212 N. Broad St., Middletown, DE 19709. Burial with military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Cemetery in Bear, DE.

Join us to celebrate Jim's life with us by wearing something bright, tie-die, Hawaiian, or anything that reminds you of him.
