We come together today to remember and celebrate the life of Stephanie T. Walko, a cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Born on October 1st, 1948, in Yonkers, New York, Stephanie's journey through life was marked by love, dedication, and the joy she brought to those around her. She passed away peacefully with George by her side giving her comfort on December 23, 2024, in Camden, Delaware, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and family devotion.
Stephanie was the beloved daughter of the late William and Rachel (née Santeramo) Purchia. Her life was a testament to the strong family values instilled in her from a young age. She is survived by her adoring husband, George, with whom she shared a remarkable love story that began on a blind date nearly 60 years ago. Their enduring partnership was a cornerstone of her life, and together they raised a beautiful family. She was the proud mother of Jonathan and his wife Natercia, Philip and his wife Jennifer, and Kristen Caravaglio and her husband Jason. Stephanie's joy was multiplied with the arrival of her grandchildren, Ella and Ava Walko, who brought boundless happiness into her life. She also leaves behind her cherished furry companion, Ally, who was a constant source of comfort and companionship; and her beloved family, Phyllis Pepe and her husband Tony, Marie Tringali and her husband Paul, and Doreen Purchia, and their children.
Professionally, Stephanie was a respected Administrative Assistant at Joel Greenberg Architects, where she dedicated 25 years of exceptional service. Beyond her professional life, Stephanie was a woman of many passions. She was an avid competitive Scrabble player, a hobby that showcased her sharp mind and spirited nature. Stephanie loved the beach and cherished her beach vacations, where she found tranquility and joy in the sound of the waves and the warmth of the sun. Her love for shopping, especially for handbags, was more than a pastime; it was a reflection of her impeccable taste and the pleasure she found in life's simple luxuries.
Stephanie took immense pride in her Italian heritage, which shone through in her exceptional cooking skills. Her kitchen was the heart of her home, where she lovingly prepared meals for her family and friends, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Her favorite flower, the rose, was a symbol of the beauty and love that she cultivated in her life, much like the flower gardens that George would plant for her, a testament to their shared affection.
