ABBEVILLE - Funeral services officiated by Francis Plaisance will be held at 2:00 PM, with visitation 11:00 - 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville, honoring the life of James Douglas White, 72, who passed away on October 3, 2025, at his residence in Lafayette after a battle with cancer. He will be laid to rest at Graceland Cemetery.
James was born on November 27, 1952. He graduated from Abbeville High School in 1970, and then attended the University of Southwest Louisiana. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, and a trustworthy friend to all who knew him. He had fond memories growing up and spending time at Chenier Au Tigre and Holly Beach with cousins and friends. His passion for playing music led him on an amazing journey playing at venues with “Crystal Image” at places like the Lake Shore Club and Air Port Club. He was an avid reader, researcher, and educator. He was a lifelong learner of yoga and natural healing. He worked at Zigler Shipyard as a draftsman, and then continued his education in CAD Design with various oil and engineering companies. He also had a passion for: writing music, building computers, and musical instruments. He also valued spending time with family and caring for his mom. He shared with his sister more than once in these last few months that he felt he had lived a good life and he was at peace. He left us way too early and still had his bucket list left to fill.
A visitation will take place at Vincent Funeral Home of Abbeville, 209 S. Saint Charles St., Abbeville, on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 11:00 AM until the time of services.
He is survived by his mother, Florence (Bernard) Marceaux; sister, Charmaine (White) Swearingen and her husband, Stan; goddaughter and niece, Alicia (Guidry) Muniz and her husband, Roger, great-nieces Autumn Muniz, and Rose Swearingen; and nephew, Sean Swearingen, great-nephews, Hunter Muniz, Colton Muniz, and River Muniz.
He was preceded in death by his father, Eldridge White; maternal grandparents, Numa Bernard and the former Cinderella White; and paternal grandparents, Doris White and the former Ernestine Broussard.
He had shared with his sister more than just once that he was at peace and felt that he had lived a full life. His contagious laugh and bright smile will be missed.
