James "Jake" Z. Yates Jr., 80, of Clinton, passed away on Monday February 6, 2023.
He was born in Tecumseh on May 19, 1942, to James Z. Yates Sr., and Estella Gertrude Sweitzer Yates.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Betty Jean Hux, Nancy Jones and Linda Yesley; brothers Fred Yates, Art Yates, George Yates, David Ray Yates, and Thomas "Squeak" Yates.
Jake is survived by his wife Marie Beno Yates, his daughters Jeanette Yates (Mark), Jamee Kimball (John) and Denice Fields; sisters Ruth Ann Meeks of Liberty, KY, Teresa Sue Dowell of Shepardsville, IN, grandchildren Lacee Cooper, Harley Reynolds (Lucas), Leigh Fields and Madalyn Fields; great grandchildren Kambree Reynolds and Jameson Reynolds. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brothers-in-law.
Jake was a Laborer with Local #204 in Terre Haute; he was a member of American Legion Post 140, Vermillion County Low 12 Club, and Jerusalem Masonic Lodge #99 of Clinton.
There will be a graveside service with military honors at Walnut Grove Cemetery on Monday February 13, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. with burial of cremains to follow the service.
Cremation was chosen.
