Jamie Ruth Castro

Jamie Ruth Thornton Castro, age 64, passed away at her home in Vancleave, Mississippi, on October 5, 2025. Jamie was born on April 30, 1961, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Robert and Violet Thornton.

Jamie had a giving heart and a strong will. She loved caring for others, tending her garden, spending time with her beloved dogs, and above all else, being “Mimi” to her four grandchildren who filled her life with magic, laughter, and blessings.

Mrs. Castro was preceded in death by her brother, Andy Franklin Thornton, and her parents, Robert Franklin Thornton and Violet Leavell Thornton.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Jesus Castro of Vancleave; her daughters, Morgan Danielle Shiyou (Steven) of Ocean Springs and Zamna Castro Briceno (Cristopher) of Long Beach; her cherished grandchildren, Bella Castro of Long Beach and twins Reece and Ryder Shiyou, and Remy Rose Shiyou of Ocean Springs; and her sister, Rebecca Hennessey (Bill) of Ocean Springs.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Vancleave, Mississippi. Visitation will take place from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m. A reception will follow at the home of Mr. Jesus Castro.
