Jamie Park Hounchell

Jamie Park Hounchell, age 75, passed peacefully on July 6, 2024.
Jamie was born on August 27, 1948 to Saul Jennings and Bettye Park Hounchell in Richmond, Kentucky. She spent her childhood swimming and cheerleading with her sister Sunny (Robert Diamond), but also enjoyed catching snakes, playing by the river and making mischief with friends. She was an alumna of Model Laboratory and Model High School and Eastern Kentucky University. Jamie dedicated over 30 years to teaching, focusing on early childhood and special needs education.
Jamie was a creative educator who worked to engage all students in learning. She was an incredible mother to Daniel Penrod (Alissa Brown-Skiles) and Megan Penrod (Josh Smouse). She was calm, understanding, supportive and kind. Jamie taught her children the value of resilience, exploration, and wonder above all.
Jamie was independent and adventurous. She loved contra dancing, swimming, visiting natural hot springs, live music and travel. In her retirement, she worked as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, supporting and promoting the well-being of abused or neglected children, ensuring their voices were heard in court. She also worked at her beloved Lakeside. In recent years, she spent her time as a devoted Mamie to Annie Dove, Shepherd, and Maverick, and taking trips and having fun with friends.
She is also survived by her aunt Peggy Wilson, nieces Kara and Kala Diamond and many other family members and friends.
Thank you to all of her friends for their support and love. A celebration of Jamie's life will be held at a future date. Jamie will be laid to rest in her hometown in Richmond Cemetery.
