Jan Close, a devoted wife, loyal sister, loving mother, faithful friend, and cherished "Mimi," passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, surrounded by family, with the same unwavering faith in Christ that marked every season of her life. Born on March 28, 1942, in Oklahoma City, to Melvin and Billie McClure, Jan was a lifelong resident of the Bethany community and a pillar of love, grace, and strength to all who knew her.
She was born with her built-in best friend, her twin sister, Jean McClure. Jan attended Bethany Public Schools and graduated in 1960. From her earliest days, Jan's life was rooted in a deep and abiding love for Jesus Christ. Her faith was not only personal, but also active and evident. She attended faithfully for many years at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene, where she found joy in worship and fellowship. Jan was the proud owner of Le Parfums, a perfume and jewelry store in Downtown Oklahoma City until June of 1995. Her store was more than just a business; it was a place where she shared her warmth, sense of style, and joy with the community. For 64 years, Jan stood by the side of her beloved husband, Richard Close, whom she met in kindergarten, known to many as "Coach." Their love was steadfast and an inspiration to those blessed to witness it. Together, they built a life rich in faith, family, and legacy.
Jan was a loyal sister to her fraternal twin, Jean Franklin (Bob), and a loving mother to her two children: Bret Close (Kellie) and Jeana Osborn (Kevin). But it was in her role as "Mimi" that Jan found her greatest joy. She poured her heart into the lives of her grandchildren: Katharine Givens (Mathew), Mathew Branscum, Alexandria Jezdan (Nikolai), Josh Osborn (Fallyn), Olivia Ashlock (Nick), and Jaden Osborn (Hayden Arthur). Her joy multiplied further with the blessing of great-grandchildren: Bella Branscum, Zane Jezdan, Zara Jezdan, Blakelyn Branscum, Christian Wade Givens, Kash Osborn, Grace Givens, and, arriving this fall, Kollyns Osborn. Jan also had a large extended family, including many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jan also leaves behind countless friends, including her treasured Friday night card group, who filled her life with laughter, companionship, and cherished memories.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Melvin and Billie McClure, and her precious granddaughter, Janae Branscum, whom she now joins in the presence of her Savior.
Jan's life was a testimony of grace, perseverance, and unshakable faith. She lived and loved fully, always pointing others to Jesus through her kindness, encouragement, and servant's heart. Though our hearts ache in her absence, we rejoice in knowing that Jan's journey has brought her into the eternal presence of Christ, whom she loved so deeply.
Viewing at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service will be Wednesday, 9am-8pm with family present from 5-7pm.
