Jan Donald Hall, a devoted husband, father, friend, and educator, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2025, at the age of 83. He was the beloved husband and best friend of Sueann Schmuck Hallfor 57 years and the proud father of Jonathan Hall
and wife Catalina, and Jennifer Hall Amberman and husband Troy.
A graduate of Red Lion Area High School, Class of 1961. Jan continued his education at East Stroudsburg University of PA, earning a Bachelor's Degree in 1965, and completing a Master's Degree from Western Maryland College in 1970. Jan also
served as a private in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1966 until 1971.
Jan's career in education began at York City School District. One year later, he returned to his alma mater, Red Lion Area School District as a Health and Physical Education teacher, where he proudly coached football and wrestling for seven years. In 1972, Jan was appointed as Red Lion's Athletic Director, a role he served with distinction for thirty years. While there, he took personal pride in creating an Athletes in Uniform Reading to Elementary Students program, which promotes the importance of literacy and academics.
Throughout his career, Jan was a passionate advocate for female athletic programs. He worked closely with other Athletic Directors from across York County. He played a pivotal role in establishing the York County Athletic Director's Council, which
strengthened collaboration and sportsmanship among local schools. This forum ultimately became the model for the District III Inter-League Council. In 1989, he was elected as a Committee Member of PIAA District III, serving as the Chairman for both
Boys' and Girls' Volleyball for 13 years and proudly hosting numerous District III and PIAA Championship events.
Outside of his busy career, Jan had a deep appreciation for antiques. He spent many years curating an extensive collection of antique fruit jars, stoneware, and primitive furniture. Each piece reflecting his love of craftsmanship and stories of the past.
Jan cherished every moment spent with family and friends, finding true joy in their laughter and companionship. He was known for his quick wit, and playful teasing. Above all, he held a special place in his heart for his grand-dogs, who adored their
"Peeps" more than anything.
Survived by his loving sisters; Patricia Rider, Lorraine Raffensberger (Carl), and Christie Gemmill (Wayne), his brother Gene Hall (Lori), and many adored nieces and nephews who will deeply miss his humor, guidance, and warmth. He was preceded in
death by his two sister's; Portia Trout (Ray) and Gwen Cusick (Cliff).
A casual gathering in Celebration Of Jan's Life will be held on November 2, 2025 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Well Wishes Farm, 1140 Felton Road Red Lion, PA 17356. The Hall family warmly invites family, friends, and colleagues of Jan, to share stories, and memories, honoring the love, friendship and influence that Jan brought to our lives.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.
