Jane Chaban Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Paul Ippolito Berkeley Memorial on Jul. 18, 2024.
Jane Chaban (Pfetzing), 81, of New Providence, passed away peacefully at Overlook Medical Center surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 14, 2024 the day before her 63rd wedding anniversary. Her husband, Alfred, had passed away on May 23, 2024.
Jane was born on January 26, 1943, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and then moved to East Orange, New Jersey with her family as a young girl. Through a family friend, Jane met her future husband, Alfred of Little Falls and they fell deeply in love and were married as soon as she graduated high school. They lived in a small apartment in East Orange before saving enough to buy a house in Lake Hiawatha where they had two daughters, Lisa and Enid. After a few years, they moved and settled into their forever home in New Providence. Jane worked at night and went to Montclair State College by day while her daughters were in school, often having to study for exams in the quiet of the front seat of her car in the garage after her husband Alfred came home from work. After graduating with her bachelor's degree, Jane began working as a secretarial skills teacher at Union Catholic High School. While there, she wrote The Wang Word Processing Training Manual, which was published by Prentice Hall. After working at Union Catholic, Jane went on to teach at Roberts Walsh Business School and then Pershing Securities as a quality assurance analyst until her retirement in 2011.
Jane loved her homelife and was an amazing cook, gardener and seamstress and enjoyed nothing more than going to the community pool or Island State Beach with her family. She absolutely adored her four grandchildren, Kristin, Matt, Jack and Nick and often helped take care of them, leaving them with such amazing memories of all the time they spent with Nana and Poppy.
She was beloved by many including her nieces and nephews as well as children of family friends who she became a second mother to often sharing advice or being there when they needed a shoulder to cry on. Jane is survived by her daughters Lisa Bowman and her partner Paul Winslow and Enid Chaban and her husband Richard Farley. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Kristin Curtis (Jacob) and their newborn daughter, Charlie Jane, Matthew Bowman (Melissa) and their expected child and John Farley and Nicholas Farley. She and Alfred will be deeply missed.
A private memorial service and life celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Faith Lutheran Church, 524 South St, New Providence, NJ 07974 or online by visiting https://famfaith.org/donate/
