Jane Elliott Gates of Weatherford, Texas (formerly of Moody, Texas) passed away on February 18, 2025, at the age of 80. Dorothy Jane Gates was born on November 28, 1944, in Centerville, Iowa, to Walter and Lois Elliott.
Jane had two brothers, Joe and Frank, and two sisters, Jean and Judy. The family moved to Hagerman, New Mexico in 1948.
In 1962, Jane asked Kenneth Wilson Gates to be her date for her senior prom at Hagerman High School. They were married on June 22, 1963 and moved to Texas where they shared 54 years together before Kenneth’s passing in 2018.
They lived in Waco, Texas until 1975 when they moved to Moody, Texas and opened Flowers and Things flower shop. Jane also purchased the Moody Courier where she served as Editor, Reporter and Photographer of the hometown newspaper. They were very active in the community. She also served on the Moody volunteer ambulance, helped organize the Cotton Harvest Festival, served on the Moody Community Library Board and served as the Executive Director of the Housing Authority in Moody. Jane was also an active member of the First Methodist Church where she participated in the women's groups and sewing group making lap quilts and bears for Shoebox Christmas.
In 2021, she moved to Weatherford and became involved at Central Christian Church and was active in the Parker County Quilters Guild. Jane loved to sew and spent many hours making lap quilts and many other items for people. Her sewing room was her happy place. She made the best cookies and baked goods. She also enjoyed playing cards and get-togethers with friends.
Family and friends remember Jane for her many accomplishments and the goodness of her heart and spirit.
Jane's life touched many and she had a significant impact on her community, friends, and family.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; her father, Walter Elliott; and her brother, Joe Elliott.
Survivors include her children, Julie Gates (Ronda) of Weatherford, Randy Gates (Utahna) of Rosebud, and Scott Thomas (Wes) of Eagan, Minnesota; grandchildren, Jackie Jones (Joseph) of Shamrock, Scott Gates (Jessie) of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Nikka, Siri, and Gramm Thomas of Eagan, Minnesota; great grandchildren, Tazzleigh and Tyson Jones; mother, Lois Elliott; brother, Frank Elliott (Harriet) of Bryan, Texas; and sisters, Jean (Dick) Isler and Judy (Frank) Pillow of Colorado; sister-in-law, Debbie Elliott; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful for the care provided by Shirley Williams and Jennifer Bellis, as well as the nurses at Beyond Faith Home Health.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at Central Christian Church, 1602 S. Main St., Weatherford, Texas 76086, visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at a later date in Blevins Cemetery.
