Janet DeAndrea Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Savino Traditional Funerals & Cremation Care on Jun. 27, 2025.
Janet Louise (Lembo) DeAndrea, 75, of South Abington Twp., an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother, and educator, passed away at home on June 26 surrounded by her loving husband and children.
Born on September 10, 1949, in Reading, she was the daughter of the late Carmelo and Dorothy (Davis) Lembo. A 1967 graduate of Governor Mifflin High School, Shillington, Janet graduated from Keystone Junior College before transferring to Bloomsburg State College from where she graduated in 1971. Soon after her graduation, she was hired as a junior high school teacher in the Parkland School District, Allentown, and did graduate work at Lehigh University and Marywood College from where she received a Masters Degree in Counseling.
While pursuing her graduate degree, Janet was hired as a faculty member in the Business Department at Keystone Junior College. That hiring began a 35-year relationship with a school that used her talents in its classrooms, as its Director of Admissions, and on its Board of Directors. Her efforts on behalf of Keystone culminated with her being named the recipient of the Margaretta Belin Chamberlin Chair Award for Distinguished Faculty Service for the 2000-2001 academic year.
Janet was a ray of light in the lives of those fortunate enough to have known her. Her passing has left a void in the hearts of family and friends, but the memories of her life are cherished. She loved to tell friends and students that she was at the Woodstock Rock Festival and knew it was time to retire when she told a Woodstock story in class and a student said, "What's Woodstock?"
During her youth, Janet was a competitive swimmer and tennis player, and later was a board member for the Scranton Tennis Club where she won a mixed-doubles championship. Eventually, the golf ball replaced the tennis ball and Janet could be found playing at Glen Oak Country Club several times a week with a close circle of friends,
who when they were not golfing were playing cards in the clubhouse.
A special time in Janet's life was a 15-year period when she and her husband, Francis, would travel as a single couple to black tie formal parties on New Year's Eve. From New York, to Boston, to Philadelphia, Toronto, Washington and Baltimore, Fran in his black tuxedo, Janet in a pearl-embossed, black Bolaro jacket and black dress. Her outfit, with a few alterations over the years, drew compliments from strangers everywhere they went.
Janet loved to have fun. But, nothing brought more enjoyment to her life than her five grandchildren, who called her Nonna, and whose classroom and athletic accomplishments were a source of pride. It didn't make a difference if she was at a baseball or football game, an ice hockey, lacrosse, golf or soccer match, or competitive horse riding, Janet
could be seen watching her favorite performers through her trusty binoculars.
Janet is survived by her husband of 50 years, Francis; a son, Christian and wife, Sharon, Eldersburg, MD; a daughter, Alicia Walsh and husband, Michael, Center Valley; five grandchildren, Nicholas and Sophia DeAndrea, and Caleb, Declan and Keira Walsh; a sister, Roseanne (Lembo) Serapioni and husband, Rinaldo of Schaffhausen, Switzerland; a sister-in-law, Carol (DeAndrea) Forbes and husband, Doug, of Lewes, DE; a nephew, Jeffrey Cantafio and wife, Heather, of Mendam, NJ; a niece, Jennifer Gilmore and husband, Ryan, of Haddonfield, NJ; and a nephew, Massimo Serapioni and wife Pauline, of Zurich, Switzerland.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, July 8th at 11 a.m. in the Church of St. Gregory, 330 N. Abington Rd., Clarks Green. All those attending are asked to go directly to the church that morning.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Monday, July 7th from 5-7 p.m. at the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home, Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore as well as from 10-10:45 a.m. at the church on Tuesday morning.

I just found out about Janet´s passing...and I´m shocked. Please accept my deepest sympathy. Janet and I were good friends in our mid teens. And we did some crazy stuff. We would steal Mr. Lembo´s car ......we had to kick start it on her street and go driving around. She was so much fun and will be missed by everyone she touched.

When my family and I arrived at Keystone College in 2013, Janet greeted me in her inimitable style, "I have been through a few of you presidents. . . so good luck! We like to disagree here, but the students come first. Call if you need anything." And true to her words, she was always there to help, and she put her students´ success first. She was a master storyteller and challenged others to be their best, including me. I never had to guess what she was thinking because she let me know. I cherished that quality in her. A true professional-one who "professed" her life to serving students-her thoughtfulness and energy live on through us. The Henry Adams quote rings true for Janet: "A teacher affects eternity." Thank you and Godspeed. Dr. David Coppola (president of Keystone 2013-2018)

My sincerest condolences to Janet´s family and to Roseanne. With the passing of Janet and my sister, Donna (Wenrich Kurczewski,) we have lost 2 members of a dynamic Shillington Swim Team medley relay team. The other members were Cookie Einsel and Christine Eckenroth. We all have wonderful childhood memories of sharing pool days with friends and family.

Dear Rosanne, dear
Janet Louise, it is very painful to lose a beloved sister. I only recently met you, dear Janet, and you and Rosanne were certainly able to grow up in a wonderful family. You must be a strong personality when I read yours circulum vitae. I'm sure you'll have a special place in the heart of the Serapioni family.
Let me deliver flowers to Rosanne and YOU once I'll geht in touch with Rosanne and Ronaldo.
My thoughts are with you!
Kindest, Gelgia Walter with Kurt

I'm saddened to hear of Janet's passing. She was one of my teachers at Keystone Jr. College, and such an awesome teacher! She was funny (ohhhh the stories she would tell us), challenging, and someone you wanted to do your best for in her classes. Anytime I saw her (years later) she was always so charming and I interested in how things are in my world after college. Such a wonderful, charismatic, and thoughtful person. My condolences to her family. Their loss is immense.
