Janet E. Gawle
June 7, 1938 - December 13, 2024
With gratitude and appreciation for a life well-lived right until the end, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Janet E. Gawle on Friday, December 13 at the age of 86. She was able to hear the loving tributes of her profound influence and steadfast love from her family before she passed peacefully.
She is survived by her three children, Frank (Chip), Linda and Jefferson, and her six grandchildren, Ben, Aaron, Sarah, Branden, Hunter and Elizabeth. The widow of Frank D. Gawle, beloved Enfield High School teacher, who passed away in 2007, Janet was a force in the community in her own right. She was a key factor in establishing the Dial-A-Ride program, and she worked tirelessly on behalf of the Windsor Housing Authority. Ever a spiritual person, she derived great joy and comfort from her church family at HolyTrinity Episcopal Church (formerly St. Mary's) in Hazardville, CT.
Ever mindful of the needs of others, mom was always reaching out to make life a little sweeter both figuratively and literally. In addition to generally maintaining an omnipresent positive and nurturing attitude, even to her last day, she was famous for making assorted treats such as cookies, candied pecans and chocolate peanut butter treasures. She doled these out equally to her family, as well as liberally to her friends and various workers and helpers at random. She was known on many occasions to help folks with rides and even anonymously pay for little things like groceries for people she thought were in need. This gave her great pleasure, and instilled the sense of loving one's neighbor in the entire family.
Janet was a joiner; she loved to belong to groups. In her earlier years, she enjoyed bowling leagues and volunteered for church and other community events. When she and Frank retired to Cape Cod, where they spent 15 years in their "paradise", they joined the Nauset Newcomers and many more church oriented projects at the Church of the Holy Spirit. After dad passed, Janet moved back to Somers, Connecticut, and quickly joined the Enfield Senior Center where she enjoyed playing cards right up until her last week on earth. Her kindness and her loving spirit will always be missed, but her effect on her family will always endure. We love you mom.
A gathering of friends and family will take place at Leete-Stevens Enfield Chapels, 61 South Rd., Enfield, CT on Saturday, December 21, 2024 from 11:00 am -12:30 pm to celebrate her life in photos and stories. A brief Funeral Home Service will take place at 12:30pm and a reception will follow at Figaro's. All who knew and loved her are welcome.
