Janet Haney Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 1, 2025.
Janet Ruth Haney, age 86, of Trenton N.J., passed away peacefully on October 12, 2024 after a long illness. She was born in New York City on June 21, 1938, to Janet Edmonia (Burgess) Haney and William Joseph Haney. The family moved to Trenton, N. J. in 1940.
Janet was a graduate of Cathedral High School and had special lifelong friendships from there. Following high school, she was a Religious of the Sisters of Mercy, North Plainfield for 11 years and remained close to members of her group throughout her life. She attended Catholic University and graduate school at Trenton State College. Janet worked for 23 years at the Department of Personnel for the State of New Jersey, some in HRDI. She also enjoyed teaching ESL Adult Education classes for many years and found fulfillment in the connections she made with her students.
She is survived by her anchor and support, her loving husband Joseph Patrick Hand, son Brian Patrick Hand, daughter-in-law, Jennifer (Jengehino) Hand, daughter Jennifer (Hand) Wright and son-in-law, Stephen Tyler Wright. She was a loving and devoted grandmother to her four special grandchildren, Jesse Patrick Hand, Juliana Grace Hand, Sydney Jane Wright, and Tyler William Wright.
Janet touched all who knew her with her kindness, generous spirit, selflessness, wisdom and love. She will be dearly missed by all who were blessed to know her. Janet was always grateful for the many joys in her life and for the many kind thoughts and prayers from others.
According to her wishes, Janet will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Samaritan Hospice of N.J. would be appreciated. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Janet, please visit our Tree Store.
