Our beloved Janet P. Harewood nee Pooran, 73, of Beltsville, MD passed away on May 14th, 2024.
Janet was born on June 11th, 1950 in Campbellville, Guyana to the late Isaac and Olive Pooran, and sister of the late Joan Persaud, Michael Pooran, Vibert Pooran and Sursattie Ramlall.
Janet was successful early on in her career as a hair stylist and was the personal hairdresser for the first lady of Guyana, Viola Burnham. She later migrated to Canada in 1982. Janet was passionate about her career as a hair stylist. In Toronto she established her own business. In the 1989, Janet and her family migrated to St Thomas, Virgin Islands, In St Thomas, Janet continued a successful career a hair stylist/ beautician. Her final endeavor in her working career was as an employee in the tourist industry and was based in Juneau, Alaska.
She is survived by her husband Malcolm Harewood, her son, Khemraj Wayne McDonald, her sisters Jean Khan, Guytrie Pooran, Sattie Pooran Levesque, Seeta Pooran Abraham, brother Robert Pooran, sisters-in-law Norma and Kamini, brothers-in-law Terry Persaud, John Khan, Alan Abraham and Gerard Levesque, proud aunt to Nadia, Tracey Pooran, Lisa Bankay, Reagan, Derick Pooran, Barbara, Inchan Khan, Alisha Pooran, Jeanine Vurana, Genevieve Levesque, Terrence Persaud, Marc, Ryan and Andrew Abraham, Sabrina and eight siblings, Trevor, Naresh Pooran,and her many relatives in the USA, the McDonalds', the Mathis', the Hardings', the Simons', the Bradshaws' and in Canada, Guyana and England.
