Janet George Jordan, beloved Daughter, Sister, Wife, Mama, Aunt and Yaya peacefully passed away December 29, 2024 with her daughters and niece by her side.
Janet Lynn George was the youngest child born to Harry George and Virginia Linster George, of Memphis, Tennessee on December 13, 1955. Janet had an older sister, Carolyn and an older brother, Michael.
Janet attended Wooddale High School and was part of the very first class when they opened their doors. She graduated in 1973 as one of the original Wooddale Cardinals. This is also where she would meet her high school sweetheart, Johnny Jordan.
After graduating, Janet began working as a Secretary for the Federal Reserve Bank, married her sweetheart and settled into married life with Johnny. A few years later, they welcomed their first daughter Lisa into the world; then along came Laura four years later. After 10 years of working at the bank, Janet decided to stay home with her young daughters full time.
In 1994, she accepted a job with Federal Express, where she had a 29-year career before retiring as a Manifesting Operations Agent in 2023.
A month after retiring, Janet's lungs began to weaken, and her toughest battle began. During this last year, while preparing for a lung transplant, she also knew there were many things left to do with her daughters and granddaughter.. Spend more time together, have more conversations, more hugs, more "I love you's" and lots more laughter, catch up on a few tv series and nail down a couple of cooking lessons.
Janet was a loving Yaya to Ryland and undoubtedly her biggest fan the minute she entered this world. She would introduce her to I Love Lucy, and Andy Griffith.. Janet would create the most wonderful and loving atmosphere a grandmother possibly could for Ryland during the 13 years and 11 months she was in her granddaughter's life here on earth. And during this last year, without pause, she sat in her rollatator, gliding around the kitchen alongside Ryland, explaining how to properly cut potatoes and onions for her favorite dish.
Whether it was laughing together at old episodes of Raising Hope or Bernie Mac, or catching up on Below Deck till after midnight, laughter echoed, skittles flowed, and time shared together talking about everything went on endlessly and was precious. Janet fought hard the last year of her life, but her lungs became too fragile. Only God's hands could take over their care, so He called her home.
Janet is survived by her daughter Lisa Moore, her granddaughter Ryland Moore; her daughter Laura Davis, son-in-law Adam Q. Davis; her sister Carolyn George Moore; nieces Patricia Owen (Sterling Owen); Dawn Yon (Eddie Yon) and Brandi Hall; grandniece Taylor Cate Madison and grandnephew Corey Yon. She was preceded in death by her husband Johnny Jordan, her father, Harry George, her mother Virginia George, her brother Michael Angelo George and brother-inlaw Allen Moore.
Janet's funeral will be Saturday, February 1st at High Point Funeral Home on Summer Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee. Visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. and Services will follow at 12:00 noon.
