Janet "Darlene" McCurry, age 69, of Burnsville, went Home to the loving arms of Jesus and her awaiting family on Thursday, July 13th, 2023. A native of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Glenn Wilson, Sr. and Ellen Mae Parton Wilson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jerry McCurry; sister, Susan Wilson Case, and brothers: Ronnie Edward Wilson and Robert Glenn Wilson, Jr.
She had a beautiful laugh and a strong spirit. She loved her Lord and was a dedicated Christian. She loved gardening and working in her flowers. The highlights of her life were her granddaughters - one who sang to her and one who sent her cards. Darlene was such a beautiful lady, inside and out.
Surviving are her children: Heather Hall (Robert) of Spruce Pine, Shawn McCurry of Burnsville, and Jerilynn McCurry (Gary) of Burnsville; two granddaughters: Jessica and Sarah Hall; two brothers: Bill Wilson of Marion and Harold Wilson of Asheville; and a sister, Nancy Waldron (Ray) of both Ocklawaha, Florida and Hendersonville, NC. She is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19th in the chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Jesse Peters and Rev. Steve Williams will officiate. Burial will follow in the Berry Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Kayla Hensley and Teresa Emory for their friendship and kindness to Darlene. Memorials may be made to the Yancey County Humane Society at 211 Kind Hearts Way, Burnsville, NC 28714.
