Janet Planten, age 90, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, formerly of Shelton, CT entered into rest on March 7, 2025 with her loving family by her side. She was the wife of the late Kenneth Watson Planten, Jr. and the companion of the late Carleton Burton for over 20 years.
She was born in Shelton, CT on September 9, 1934, daughter of the late Isaac and Mary Ann (Loughlin) Russell and was a lifelong resident before moving to Bluffton, SC. at retirement.
Janet spent her career caring for others as a Register Nurse. She was employed at Hewitt Health & Rehabilitation Center, Bishop Wicke Health & Rehabilitation Center, and Shelton Lakes in Shelton before her retirement.
Janet loved to sew, knit, and quilt. She has gifted many family members her beautiful quilts through the years. She loved to play board and card games and make puzzles with family and friends. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping. She also enjoyed traveling. Her daughters have many wonderful memories of both camping and travel vacations with her. Janet enjoyed singing, both in church and in community choirs. In her retirement years, Janet both volunteered at a local hospital, as well as knitted and quilted hats, blankets and teddy bears for newborns and young children.
She is the beloved mother of four daughters Linda Planten-Lamoree (the late Paul Lamoree), Cheryl Planten (Larry McDonnell), Wendy Delehanty (Joseph Delehanty), and Leslie Lubbers (Ken Lubbers), loving grandmother of Jonathon Planten (Alison Kosmos), Ken McDonnell (Erica Eloy), Kelsey Locorotondo (Michael), Mary Costa (Mario), Michael Alicea, Toni Lubbers, and Jessica Lubbers, great grandmother of Kori Planten, Greyson Planten, Mia Costa, and Maeve Costa. Linda,Cheryl,Wendy and Leslie- Auntie Jan has always been in my life. She was there when I was born. I have so many memories of not just her but of your Dad and of all of you. Our families were together so much. Camping, holidays and picnics. Your Mom was a Very special lady who not only was my Mom´s closet friend but a lasting part of my life. I can remember playing pinochle with her and my Mom. She crocheted a blanket for Heather when she was born watched her while I had graduation practice made my Rainbow girls gown and was there when my Mom was in the hospital. She was just an amazing talented and giving woman! You lucky to have her as a Mom!! I know she will be missed by all but especially you four girls and your families. Keep each other and your memories close and she and your Dad will live on forever. Love you Karen

Linda, Cheryl, Wendy, Leslie; I am so saddened to learn of your mother´s passing. Janet Planten was a good friend back in the days when we worked together at Bishop Wicke; she was an inspiring mentor and advisor to me, smart, had a nice sense of humor. To this day, I look forward to decorating our Christmas tree to see, once again, beautiful ornaments that she so perfectly crafted and gifted me decades ago. So many wonderful memories of her. She was a wonderful lady, full of strength, compassion and goodness. May she rest in heavenly peace.
