Janet S. Steppe, 86, passed away on December 17, 2022 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center. She was born on January 24, 1936 in Bedford County, PA. to the late Russell and Phyllis Rose Nee and was a graduate of Fort Hill High School in Cumberland, MD.
Janet and her husband, James William "Bill" Steppe, enjoyed a loving and fulfilling marriage of over 50 years until his death on March 8, 2007. During that time they were blessed with two daughters and three granddaughters.
Janet was also fortunate enough to see the birth of her great-granddaughter.
She went on to further her education by earning her L.P.N. degree and worked at the Charles T. Sitrin Home before retiring.
Janet loved working in her garden and enjoyed the times spent with family and friends at their camp on Piseco Lake.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will forever remain in the hearts of her family: her two daughters; Susanne and George Aylesworth of Utica and Cathleen and Robin Grote of Plymouth, MA., her grandchildren; Alycia and Ben Maxwell, Shannon Aylesworth and Catherine Dennison, her cherished great-granddaughter; Marin Maxwell as well as her nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sister and brother in law; Shirley and Lawrence Dickerhoff and her son in law; Greggory Scruggs.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home, 3022 Oneida St. Sauquoit.
Her family would like to thank the staff at the Presbyterian Home and Preswick Glen and the nurses at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, especially Iryna, Shelbey and Hayley for their compassionate care.
Please consider donations in Janet's memory to the New Hartford First United Methodist Church, 105 Genesee St., New Hartford, N.Y. 13413.
