Janice Call Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Freeman Mortuary - Jefferson City on Mar. 3, 2025.
It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Janice Call, age 64, on March 2, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Janice was born on June 7, 1960, in Jefferson City, Missouri, to Christopher and Melva (Perrey) Schmitz. She will be profoundly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.
On March 13, 1982, Janice married her life partner, Chuck Call. Together, they shared their life in central Missouri. Above all, Janice treasured her family, especially her role as a proud grandmother to her three grandsons, Watson, Rhett, and Walker.
Janice was known for her energy and zest for life. She cherished daily walks, reading, gardening, traveling with family and friends, and spending as much time outside as possible in the warmer months. Her greatest joy, however, was being surrounded by her loved ones, especially her grandsons. She found immense joy in watching their budding personalities and greater joy in spoiling them.
After graduating from Russellville High School in 1978, she dedicated herself to a career with the State of Missouri, primarily with the Department of Corrections. In addition to her career outside of the home, she managed to run things on the home front while Chuck endured time away on multiple deployments. Later, she pursued her undergraduate degree at Columbia College. She retired from her career with the State of Missouri in 2016, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and service.
Janice's memory lives on through her beloved husband, Chuck; her daughter, Amanda Otto, and son-in-law, Greg of Norfolk, Va.; her son, Jared Call, and daughter-in-law, Chelsey of Henley, Mo.; and her cherished grandsons, Watson, Rhett, and Walker Call. She is also survived by her sisters, Debbie Weeces and Linda Crow (Larry); numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Christopher and Melva Schmitz; her parents-in-law, Bob and Amelia Call; and many other family members and friends.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to Dr. Bagegni and team at Siteman Cancer Center whose care helped extend her quality time with family and friends. They would also like to thank the team at Compassus Hospice for their care and support.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 6:00 pm, Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Freeman Mortuary, 915 Madison, Jefferson City, Missouri 65101.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 7, 2025, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Monsignor David D. Cox officiating.
A webcast of her service will begin at 10:00 am, Friday, March 7, 2025, for friends that are not able to attend by by clicking the "Webcast Now" button below her obituary.
