Janice Granger Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Palmer Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes- Holt Delhi Chapel on Sep. 19, 2024.
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Janice "Jan" Granger, who departed this earthly life at the age of 90. As a devoted wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Jan's departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew her.
Born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Louis and Eugenia Thompson, Jan grew up with her siblings Diane Martinson (deceased), Louis Thompson and Barbara Heydenberk in Kalamazoo, Hastings and Gun Lake. She graduated from Middleville High School where she was a cheerleader and active in the school plays. She met her husband, Alton "Al", at the age of 10-12, and they recently celebrated a remarkable 70 years of marriage on June 20th.
Jan was a dedicated nurse, embodying compassion and selflessness in her every action. Her nurturing spirit extended beyond the hospital, as she embraced everyone with open arms and a warm, comforting hug. She would often remind you that the key to good health and happiness is seven hugs per day. Her infectious laughter and vibrant energy brought joy to everyone around her.
An adventurous soul, Jan loved creating unforgettable memories with family and friends. Her culinary delights, from creative watermelon sculptures to delicious baked goods, were always the highlight of any celebration, and her handmade graduation quilts brought warmth and comfort to many. With a flair for style, she added fun to every occasion and her Christmas poems were always a joy to read.
Family was at the heart of Jan's life. She found immeasurable joy in watching her loved ones grow and thrive. Jan is survived by her husband, Alton Granger; children, Gary Granger, Gregg [Lorrie] Granger, Gay Marie Granger, Glenn [Trish] Granger, and Gloria [Kevin] Brushwyler; and raised three of their granddaughters, Janie, Julie and AnnaMarie among their 15 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. In addition to her siblings, Louis [Shirley] Thompson and Barb [Barry] Heydenberk, Jan is also survived by her brothers-in-law Ron [Donna] Granger and Jerry [Lynne-deceased] Granger.
As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we find comfort in the promise of eternal life through Christ Jesus. We take solace in knowing that Jan is now in the loving embrace of our Lord, where she will forever shine with His light and love.
Visitation will be at Palmer, Bush and Jensen Family Funeral Home - Holt Delhi Chapel, 5035 W. Holt Road, Holt, MI 48842 on Monday, September 23 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm.
A celebration of Jan's life will be held at Hope Community Church, 501 E. Mount Hope Ave, Lansing MI 48910 on Tuesday, September 24 at 11am with visitation beginning at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to MSU College of Nursing Scholarship Fund or Hope Community Church in her honor. (links below)
Rest in peace, sweet Jan. Your love, light, and faith will continue to guide us and shine brightly in our hearts.

Jan was so gracious, and invited the former senior bus group to her lovely cottage. I had never met her before, but she immediately made everyone comfortable and her husband even took us on a pontoon ride. Jan served a delicious meal and it was a glorious day. I will always remember her hospitality, and kindness. She was a remarkable woman who will be missed.
