Janice K. Murnan, 89 of Indianapolis, former Shelbyville resident, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025 at IU North Hospital.
Born October 30, 1935 in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Evelyn (Yeager) Weintraut.
She married Norman G. Murnan on August 2, 1953, and he preceded her on March 28, 2013.
Survivors include 4 children- Scott Murnan (Toni) of Waldron, Sheryl Dill (Greg) of Indianapolis, Shelley Gies (Kris) of Greenwood, Shad Murnan (Mary Clark) of Shelbyville;
10 grandchildren- Shaun Murnan, Seth Murnan, Silas Murnan, Eric Dill, Andrew Dill, Breelyn Finegan, Adam Baker, Nicolas Baker, Stefanie Orzechowicz, Isabel Gies; and 22 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother and her spouse.
Mrs. Murnan had lived in Indianapolis for 4 years, after moving from Shelbyville, and had also lived in Venice, Florida for 20 years. She started her career as a beautician, worked as a jail matron for 7 years, and was Shelby County's first female deputy. She also worked at Holiday Inn as an event planner, and she and her husband owned and operated Murnan Auto Service for several years. She graduated from Shelbyville High School, where she was a cheerleader, and was a member of First United Methodist Church locally, and a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Venice, Florida. She was a member of dozen's of genealogy and social clubs, including Daughter's of the American Revolution and the Red Hat Society.
Janice enjoyed playing piano, music, dancing, playing Euchre, entertaining guests at her home in Florida, and spending time with her family.
Funeral services will. be 11:00 am on Friday, September 19, 2025 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road. Burial will be in Fountaintown Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday evening, September 18, 2025 from 4:00pm until 7:00pm, and from 9:00am until 11:00am on Friday morning preceding the funeral service, at the funeral home.
