Born on November 8, 1971, at Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Michigan, Jason was the cherished son of Robert and Claudeen (Root) Blastic. His life was marked by his humor, and his creativity, qualities that stood out to all who knew him.
Raised in a loving family with his younger siblings Andrew, Kory, and Holly, Jason's early years were filled with many joyous family gatherings, neighborhood adventures, and pick up football games with friends in the yard at Scenic Lake. He attended Laingsburg High School, graduating with the class of 1990. His pursuit of education continued at Central Michigan University, where he became a proud member of the Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. The bonds Jason formed with his fraternity brothers were ones that shaped his future and would last a lifetime. His passion for culinary arts led him to move on to the prestigious Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, where he refined his skills as a chef. Jason's love for cooking was not just a profession but a way of life that he enjoyed sharing with others.
Jason's zest for life and his love for his family were evident in the time he spent at their cabin, a place of gathering, laughter, and memories. His sense of adventure led him to talk the family into a trip to Isle Royale National Park in 1989 for an exploration that led to a passion for the island that spread to countless more adventures. Jason's leadership on the first trip led to numerous future trips for him, his siblings and cascaded to friends and friends of friends. It's been calculated that over forty friends, family and acquaintances have visited the island after the legendary first family adventure.
As a chef, Jason shared his skills and experience in kitchens throughout Michigan including: the Soup Spoon Cafe, The Wrought Iron Grill, The English Inn, The Lark, Hermann's Cafe Restaurant, and Bower's Harbor Inn. He used his ability to create dishes that were not merely meals, but expressions of love to the customers, friends, and family that were lucky enough to enjoy them.
While Jason enjoyed his passion for cooking, he could often be found happy as can be after work with a Stroh's and a Totinos frozen pizza for dinner. He preferred the simple things in his off time like spending time in the woods hunting for mushrooms or hanging out around a bonfire with his pets and friends.
He is survived by his devoted siblings, Andrew (Kimberly) Blastic, Kory (Holly Ann) Blastic, and Holly Joy (Anne Nicklin) Blastic. Jason's role as an uncle was one he embraced with great joy. His nieces and nephews, Kelty, Anna, Cole, Robby, Lily, Abby, William, George, Katie, Sam, Teddy, and Henry, will miss their uncle's playful spirit and the special moments they shared. He was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Claudeen, Grandparents Claude and Kathleen Root, Grandparents Art and Hazel Blastic; his Uncle Bill Blastic, Uncle Tom Blastic, his Aunt Janet Cook, and Aunt Laurie Bialik.
In every aspect of his life, Jason embodied the essence of creativity. Whether he was crafting a new recipe, sharing a story with friends, or simply being present with his loved ones, he brought a vibrancy that enriched the lives of those around him.
As we remember Jason, we celebrate a life lived fully, a life that touched so many, and a spirit that will never be forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to: The Laingsburg Educational Advancement Foundation (LEAF) in appreciation of the education, friends, and community that surrounded him at Laingsburg Community Schools and to Honor his mother, Claudeen, a long time Laingsburg educator.
