On Saturday, February 26th, Jason Shane Peterman, lovingly known as Shane to all, passed away unexpectedly in Navarre, FL., at the age of 53. Shane was born May 31st, 1968 in Dothan, AL.
As the son of a Navy serviceman, Shane grew up all over the United States, moving from Alabama to Hawaii. Shane graduated from Austin High School in Decatur, AL. After graduation, Shane served for 3 years in the US Navy. After leaving the service, Shane moved to Destin, FL. Shane worked in the insurance industry with State Farm for years, then making a career change, obtaining his yacht brokerage license, and working in boat sales across Florida for many years.
Shane had an enormous love for the water. He loved any activity that was on the water or at the beach. Boating, hunting sand crabs on the beach with Callie, or river rafting in North Carolina with the Miller family. Scuba diving in Cabo San Lucas with friends. Shane was always up for an adventure, whether it was a last minute trip to New Orleans, staying on the boat all night jamming out to "My Wish" by Rascal Flats or grabbing sushi at the Slippery Mermaid.
His biggest pride and joy was his daughter, Catalina. He loved taking Callie to family reunions, where he taught her to shoot cans with a BB gun. Shane was Callie's biggest supporter, attending all of her cheerleading competitions, pageants and birthday celebrations. Callie fondly remembers her dad attending her 3rd grade spelling contest, consoling her when she misspelled raisin. Most recently, enjoying the engagement of Callie and Tanner.
Shane's mother, Rhonda, thoroughly enjoyed having Shane with her after the passing of William. Enjoying watching movies, dining out along with being her handyman. Any project that needed to be tackled, Shane was your man.
To know him was to love him. Shane was so generous, he would give the shirt off his back to anyone he thought needed it. It is a quality that we will most miss about him.
Shane is survived by his daughter, Catalina Peterman (fiancé Tanner Hakert) of Dallas, TX; mother, Rhonda Gillen of Navarre, FL; brother, Ricky Peterman of Montgomery, AL; aunts, Gayla (Randy) Hall & Elaine Guy; uncle, Jerry (Bonnie) Bullock; many extended family; and many close friends including Justin Miller, Tommy Chandler and Jeff Crowe.
Shane is preceded in death by his father, William Gillen; grandparents, Cecil Allen Bullock and Blanche Irene Chesser Bullock; uncle, Darious Guy; and cousins, Danny Guy and Jeff Reeves.
A celebration of life is being held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 5th at the Best Western Navarre Waterfront Pavilion, located at 8697 Navarre Parkway, Navarre, FL. The family requests no black, as this is a celebration, they would like all to wear white or fun, festive colors.
