Jauntel Charise Tate

Jauntel Charise Tate, age 52, passed away on Saturday, June 1, 2024, in Baltimore, Maryland. She was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on December 8, 1971, daughter of Barbara (Tate) Roberts and L.B. Cooley Jr. and Stepfather Sherman Roberts. She graduated from East High School, attended Morgan State University and continued to call Baltimore home for 34 years. She was active in her community, local politics, online health forums, and became quite a social media personality.
Jauntel was employed by The University of Maryland in Baltimore and College Park, Maryland. Throughout her career with the University of Maryland, Jauntel supported the Medical Staff, Athletic Department, and the School of Dentistry. Her knowledge and experience became invaluable to the teams she worked with through the years.
Jauntel's faith was strong and guided her through many of her life's challenges. She overcame many health challenges and turned her survival into advocacy for Aortic Dissection and Kidney Disease. She helped others through their journeys, in addition to providing care for and counseling for survivors. Her incredible sense of humor, bright spirit, commitment to friendship, love of family and infectious energy will be sorely missed. These qualities and many more will be felt forever in the hearts and minds of those who knew her.
Jauntel was preceded in death by her beloved maternal grandparents Esset Sr. and Roberta Tate; paternal grandparents L.B. Sr. and Ruby Cooley; and aunts Claudia Cooley and Fannie Cooley. She leaves to cherish her memory, the light of her life and best friend, daughter Christin Youngblud. Survivors also include her loving mother Barbara (Tate) Roberts, her father L.B. Cooley Jr. and stepfather, Sherman Roberts of Erie; sisters, Kimberly Tate of Baltimore MD, Tanisha Cooley of Seattle, WA; brothers Kevin Roberts and LaMario Cooley of Erie, PA; stepbrothers James Oliver and Allen Oliver of Syracuse, NY; and her Godparents Freddie and Alice Jones of Erie, PA; along with a multitude of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Friends.
Visitation will be held at Dusckas Funeral & Cremation Services Harborcreek, 5151 Buffalo Rd. (at Hannon Rd.) on Friday, June 14th from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The Celebration of Life Service will take place at Morning Star Baptist Church, 327 E. 23rd St, Erie, PA 16503 on Saturday, June 15th at 11:00 am. Interment will follow immediately at Erie Cemetery, 2116 Chestnut St. Erie, PA 16502.
