Jay Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service Inc. - York on Mar. 20, 2025.
It is with profound sadness that the family of Jay Edward Smith, of Red Lion, PA, announces his peaceful passing on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at the age of 83.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward and Marguerite (Farrell) Smith.
Jay is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Paulette (Kaufman); daughter, Jacqueline Mills, (Patrick) of Herndon, VA; daughter, Tracy Strausser of Lancaster, PA; daughter, Tiffany Pushkar (Ronald) of Havertown, PA; grandchildren Robert, Evan, Sophie, Jonah and Griffin; brother, Gerald (Barbara) of Norwich, CT; brother, Robert (Eileen) of Shelton, CT; beloved nieces and nephews; and loyal pup, Willow.
Jay was born in Bridgeport, CT and grew up in Stratford, where he attended St. James School and graduated from Stratford High School. He attended York College and served in the Army Reserve for 6 years.
He was employed by American Chain & Cable (ACCO) for 30+ years; Great Bay Paper, Monkton, MD; Coldwell Banker Real Estate, York; and Chapin Davis, Baltimore, MD.
Jay's greatest passion was golf, and he was a member of Bon Air C.C. for over 35 years, where he will be missed by many wonderful friends. He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church, East York. He found joy in music, cars (especially his Mustang), sports, and woodworking and building projects. He had a gift for making everyone laugh with his quick wit and classic "Jay" jokes. He adored his family, and especially loved the many years of Smith family beach vacations.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jay's Funeral Mass on Monday, March 24, 2025 at 11:00AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2935 Kingston Rd., York, PA 17402 with Rev. Peter Rettig as celebrant. Interment will be private. Viewings will be held on Sunday, March 23, 2025 from 5:00PM – 7:00PM at Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., of East York, 3670 E. Market St., York, PA 17402 and on Monday from 10:00AM – 11:00AM prior to the Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
A luncheon will be held after Mass from 1:00PM – 4:00PM at The First Post Public House, 3691 E. Market St., York, PA 17402.
Memorial contributions may be made to Penn State Hershey Cancer Center or Hospice & Community Care, Mt. Joy.
