Massena: Jean Romeo Bronchetti, age 83, passed away peacefully on November 6, 2025. Her passing comes just three months after the loss of her beloved husband of 60 years, James Bronchetti, with whom she shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and unwavering partnership.
Born on October 24, 1942, in Massena, New York, Jean met James in her hometown, and the two were married in August of 1965. Together, they built a home filled with warmth and kindness, raising two sons and welcoming three grandchildren and one great-grandchild into their lives.
Jean is lovingly remembered by her sons, Tom Bronchetti (Michele) of Auburn Hills, Michigan, and Chris Bronchetti of Jamesville, New York. She was a proud grandmother to Sara, Jake, and Alexandra, and a joyful great-grandmother to Miloh.
Jean is also survived by her seven siblings: Joan Bocskor, Janice O'Brien, Joseph Romeo, Tom Romeo, John Romeo, Jeff Romeo, and Jay Romeo. She leaves behind a large and loving extended family, including 26 nieces and nephews, 10 brothers- and sisters-in-law, and more cousins than can be counted. Jean also cherished her lifelong friends-Darlene Bocskor, Marlene Dewey, Jane Laba and Sylvia Cordwell-who were like sisters to her.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Jean was known for her kindness, generosity, and the quiet strength she offered to all around her. She spent over 25 years working as a legal secretary, concluding her career in service at the St. Lawrence County Courthouse.
In retirement, Jean discovered a deep passion for quilting. Over the course of two decades, she lovingly created more than thirty quilts-each one thoughtfully personalized and gifted to family and friends for weddings, birthdays, and other special occasions. These quilts were more than just fabric and thread; they were heirlooms, stitched with love and care.
Jean also embraced travel later in life, exploring the world with Jim, along with friends and family. Her adventures took her to Europe, Mexico, Alaska, and China, creating cherished memories and stories that she carried with her always.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, November 16, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Phillips Memorial Home, 64 Andrews Street, Massena, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 17, at St. Mary's Church, 105 Cornell Avenue, Massena, NY.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Massena Chapter of Meals on Wheels or the American Diabetes Association-two causes close to Jean's heart.
Her love was quiet but fierce, her legacy enduring. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
