A Life of Love, Service, and Cherished Memories
Jean M. Byrnes, 92, of Gibbstown, New Jersey, and formerly of Kulpmont, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2025. Born on June 20, 1932, in Kulpmont, she was the beloved daughter of the late Alexander and Ivea (Siminitis) Demidovich.
Jean's life was a testament to love, faith, and service. She married Francis Byrnes on July 13, 1957, and together they built a life filled with devotion and purpose until his passing in 2004. She was a loving mother to Kathleen, Michael, Paul, and Janine, and a cherished mother-in-law to Lorenzo Fesler. Her greatest joy came from her role as grandmother and great-grandmother, holding dear memories with her great-grandson, Andre Sojo. She carried the deep sorrow of losing her beloved granddaughter, Melissa Byrnes, in 2024.
Jean was preceded in death by her siblings-brothers Ernest, Victor, and Leonard, and sisters Elizabeth and Eleanor. She was a cherished Aunt to many nieces and nephews. She leaves behind a rich legacy of love and strength that continues through the generations of her family.
A woman of many talents, Jean found joy in quilting, sewing, and cooking, often sharing her quilts and favorite recipes with friends and family. Her adventures took her far from home to visit loved ones in places such as Japan, Germany, California, and Georgia-journeys she embraced with warmth and curiosity.
Jean dedicated over 40 years to her career as a registered nurse starting in 1950 at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Known for her compassion, diligence, and gentle spirit, she cared deeply for her patients and brought that same nurturing presence to everyone she met.
Faith played an integral role in Jean's life. She was a devoted member of The Catholic Community of the Holy Spirit in Mullica Hill, New Jersey, where she found solace and community through her spirituality.
Jean's vibrant life will be celebrated on Friday, May 23, 2025, when family and friends are invited to visit from 10:00am - 11:00am at The Catholic Community of the Holy Spirit Parish Center, located at 17 Earlington Avenue, Mullica Hill, New Jersey, 08062. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am, with burial to follow in Holy Name cemetery next to the Parish Center.
Jean M. Byrnes will be remembered for her warmth, grace, and the indelible mark she left on all who were fortunate to know her. Her memory lives on in the hearts of her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and generosity. May she rest in eternal peace.
