Jean Raymond Elpers, 88, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, September 20, 2023 at Heritage Center surrounded by his family.
Jean was born in Evansville, Indiana on May 23, 1935 to the late Raymond and Marcella (Coudret) Elpers. He attended St. Joseph Grade School and graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in 1953. Jean began his career in the grocery business at the age of 10 under the guidance of his father, Ray at Elpers Finer Foods. He was a meat manager with Kroger and went on to retire from Wesselman's in 1997 after 29 years of service. Jean was a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. After retirement, Jean delivered flowers for Cottage Florist. In his free time, he enjoyed playing dominoes. Family was the most important to Jean, spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was very active going to their activities and sporting events. Jean will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
Jean is survived by his sons, Michael Elpers (Stacey) of Chandler, IN, Jeffery Elpers (Caroline) of Evansville, IN and Eric Elpers (Dianne) of Evansville, IN; brother, Larry Joe Elpers (Betty) of Evansville, IN; grandchildren, Ryan Elpers (Emilee), Jason Elpers (Abby), Audrey Elpers, Austin Elpers (Sydney Hunter), Hayley Jones (Jared) and Logan Elpers (Emily); great grandchildren, Kostin, Avery, Kennedy, Nolan, Levi, Beckett, Bryce, Grayson, Camden and Fletcher; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Jean was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Sara (Hillenbrand) Elpers; his loving wife, Marlene (Woods) Elpers; and by his parents.
A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Sts. Mary and John Parish, 613 Cherry St., Evansville, IN 47713. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at Browning Funeral Home, 738 Diamond Ave., Evansville, IN 47711 and again from 9:00 am until Mass time on Wednesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Tri-State Multiple Sclerosis Association, 971 S. Kenmore Dr. C., Evansville, IN 47714.
