Jean "Bootsie" Gatz Hargadon
Jean "Bootsie" Gatz Hargadon, 90, went home to Christ on July 5th. Jean was born January 27, 1934 in Louisville, Kentucky. She was the youngest of six children of Ethel Norton and John Clarence Gatz, Jr., who gave Jean the nickname Bootsie as a child. Bootsie was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Harry L. Hargadon, Jr.; their son Patrick Martin; their granddaughter Patricia Jean; Jean's parents; infant twin brothers Carl and Walter; brothers John C. "Buddy" and Norton Gatz; and sister Elmira Louise "Ease".
Bootsie attended Ursuline College on academic scholarship after graduating from Atherton High School in 1952. She left college after two years to marry the love of her life, Harry, and found great joy being a dedicated homemaker, wife, mother of three, grandmother and great grandmother. Bootsie loved flowers and gardening, using her talent to decorate Holy Trinity Church, and spending time with her lifelong friends from Trinity Hills Lane and River Road Country Club.
Bootsie is survived by two children she loved dearly, son, Kevin Harrison Hargadon and daughter, Kate Giuliani, (Denis), seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She will be remembered as a gentle woman of strong character with a big heart and open home.
A celebration of Bootsie's life will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, July 19, 2024 at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, 12900 Shelbyville Road, East Louisville, with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery. The family will receive visitors from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm prior to the service.
Thank you to all of Bootsie's caregivers over the last five years. Memorial contributions may be made to Wesley Village, 1125 Lexington Road, Wilmore, KY 40390.
