Jean Mae (Sell) Oswald, 87, a resident of Rittenhouse Village at Lehigh Valley, passed away peacefully December 7, 2024 in Lehigh Valley Hospital Inpatient Hospice Unit, surrounded by her family. Jean, a former Alburtis resident, was the widow of Allen A. Oswald who passed January 30, 2021. They were married for 63 years.
Born in Emmaus, May 2, 1937, Jean was the daughter of the late Arthur Woodrow Wilson Sell and Mary Young Moser Sell. Jean was a 1955 graduate of Emmaus High School, where she was an mvp of the basketball team, member of the gym team, and a majorette. In early years she worked at the probation office at Lehigh County Courthouse, and then became a homemaker.
Jean was a previous member of Longswamp United Church of Christ, Mertztown. Deeply involved in her community, Jean was involved in the construction of the Alburtis Area Swimming Pool, Den mother for Alburtis Pack 86 Cub Scouts, and Camp Fire Leader for Alburtis Camp Fire Girls. She was a past member of the Alburtis-Lockridge Historical Society for over eighteen years. Jean was a life member of Nimrod Fish & Wildlife Association, Alburtis.
For 22 years, Jean spent half of each year at their summer home in Susquehanna County, PA, with her husband, Allen. Here they enjoyed, fishing, hunting, gardening, and spending time with their family.
Survivors: There are three children. Sons: Allen II and wife Katie of Friendsville; Matthew and wife Abigail of Alburtis, and daughter: Ellen and her husband Sterling Quier of Yuma, AZ. Jean is survived by sisters Elinor Gollie and Linda Reinbold. Brothers: Arthur, Kenneth, Dale, Ronald, and Dennis. Grandsons: Ryan, Allen III (Valerie), Scott Quier, Kevin (Christine) Quier; granddaughter: Aubree (Andrew) Miller. Great grandchildren: James, Shawn, Delia Quier, Alexis Quier, Olivia Quier. Jean was preceded in death by brother, Carl.
Services will be private at Longswamp Union Cemetery. Schmoyer Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
