Jean C. (Wunder) Smith, 83, of Crestview Drive, Westerly, passed away at the Westerly Hospital on Saturday, August 23, 2025. She was the widow of the late Gerard E. Smith; formerly married to the late Lawrence F. Vanaman.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd W. and Mary E. (Rexer) Wunder.
Jean worked as Office Manager at L'Interieur in downtown Westerly for many years and was previously employed at Foxwoods Casino as Casino Administrator. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, Westerly, where she had most recently served as Chairwoman of the Flower Committee.
She enjoyed her family and friends, gardening and reading, as well as various volunteer work throughout her life. Jean was a beautiful soul who touched many lives with her kind, gentle and compassionate spirit. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her two children, Suzanne E. Vanaman of Westerly and Scott L. Vanaman of Hope Valley; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jean was predeceased by her brother William L. Wunder and her daughter-in-law Anariliz Vanaman.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service that will take place at 11am on Saturday, September 6th at Central Baptist Church, 16 Elm Street, Westerly.
