Jeannie Schreck Obituary

Visit the Independent Funeral Service - Bountiful website to view the full obituary.

Jeannie (Mary Jean) Mathews Schreck was born January 31, 1945, in Bountiful, Utah. She was the second child of Elmo and Lorene Mathews. Jeannie was a very adventurous and sociable lady who traveled widely, and she married her husband Gary Schreck at the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, CA in 1972. Jeannie mourned Gary’s passing in 2003 and is survived by two children, Mindy and John, and her only grandchild, Riley.

Her favorite things in life were good food, small dogs, beautiful gardens, Christmas, the British royal family, and quite frankly anything else that took her fancy. She had a big imagination, and she certainly wasn’t afraid to go after whatever she wanted.

In her last few months Jeannie returned home to Utah to be closer to her family, and she made some very kind and caring friends at her assisted living facility. She lived by the saying that ‘the way to be happy is to make others happy.’ She will be greatly missed by many family, friends and passing strangers alike.

A celebration of her joyous life will be held on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 12:30 at The Bridge Community Church, 1284 W 75 N, Centerville, UT 84014. In honour of her wishes, she asked that those attending wear something purple, as this was her favorite color.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the Bountiful Food Bank or the Food Bank nearest you.
