Jed Hickson Obituary

Published by Kane Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Easton on Dec. 31, 2020.
Hickson, Jed Patrick, 36, of Mansfield, MA, formerly of Norwood, passed away on December 31, 2020, two years after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer. Jed leaves behind his loving family: parents Edward and Kathleen Hickson of Mansfield, MA (formerly of Norwood, MA), twin sister Meghann Zekan and her husband Peter and daughter Vera of Harrisburg, PA, sister Sara Hickson of Jackson, NH, brother Matthew Hickson and his fiancé Raychel Hamada of Santa Rosa, CA, uncle Jack Hickson and aunt Sandi of Barberton, OH. He also leaves cherished friends and family across the country. He was a graduate of Boston College High School and Bunker Hill Community College. He loved cooking, LARPing and gaming with his friends. Throughout his two years of cancer treatment, he always maintained a positive attitude and showed true strength of character. He will be remembered as a warm-hearted and generous person who gave of himself to family and friends without a second thought. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a mass and celebration of his life will be held in the spring of 2021 with a date and time to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Caring for a Cure, benefiting Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. It is an organization that provided much comfort to him and his family in times of need.

The first time I spoke with Jed was at our 10th year BC High reunion, and I remember him being friendly and outgoing. We chatted for a good part of the reunion, and moved over to the bar with our classmates afterwards. At the end of the night, I invited him to join some of our classmates and my friends for dim sum in the morning, and he agreed. I got to the restaurant the next day, and he showed up, just as he had promised, and just as upbeat as he was the evening before.

In the years that followed, he continued to behave the exact same way -- keeping his promises, and being upbeat. When he was faced with his illness, he swore that he would continue fighting it, because he was not one to give up. And he kept his word, all while keeping a positive attitude.

I will always admire and respect Jed's truthfulness, resilience, and outlook, even when he was challenged with something unimaginable. I wish him and his family peace.

Dear Kathy and Jed and family,

I am so sorry to learn of Jed's passing. I remember him fondly from our days when he and Meghann were toddlers and in early grade school. I remember our fun trip up to Santa's Village in North Conway.

Thinking of all of you and sending you love. May you find small comfort in your many happy memories.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

My deepest condolences to the Hickson family. I remember when Jed and I had CCD class together at Saint Tim's. He seemed quiet, intelligent, and funny. I became good friends with Meghann in high school. I have some wonderful memories from when she threw me a baby shower at the family house in Norwood as well as a few get togethers that Jed was at. I'll keep you all in my prayers.
