Jeffrey Reider Obituary

Dr. Jeffrey L. Reider died February 28, 2025, at the age of 72 after a skiing accident in Vail, Colorado. He is survived by his husband Charles (Chuck) Otis, his two brothers, Dr. Ronald Reider (Sue) and Dr. Bruce Reider (Patricia), their children, Josh Reider, Meaghan Guterman (Misha), Eamonn Reider, Carl Reider (Dr. Lily Montoya), and Juliana Reider (Ayon Bhattacharya). Also, Andrew Ritter (Farrah), Sarah Ritter (Allison), Chris Otis, Brian, Kevin, and Chris Schuon. He was a beloved son to the late Blanche and Edward Reider and a special nephew to his late Aunt Rose Sullivan.
Jeff and Chuck spent 37 extraordinarily happy years together surrounded by the love of family and friends.
Jeff was a proud alumnus of the University of Virginia (Go Hoos!) and a member of the Virginia Men's Glee Club. He then received his dental degree from Medical College of Virginia and became an outstanding and well-respected oral surgeon admired by many.
At the age of 57 he ran his first marathon, completing over 30 including 5 Boston Marathons.
Jeff was also a two-time Ironman and competed in countless other athletic events.
He loved singing and playing music. As an adult he learned to play the piano and the guitar.
He was smart, funny, generous, irreverent, and so much more. He was a mensch and he loved people. If you met Jeff, you met a friend. He spent many hours volunteering and contributed so much to his communities.
Jeff had a real fondness for northern Michigan. His special place was the home he and Chuck shared in Cross Village and his final resting place will be in that town.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 5, 4-8PM & Thursday, March 6, 2-8PM at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home (Vasu, Rodgers & Connell Chapel), 32515 Woodward Ave., Royal Oak, 48073.
