Mrs. Jerlene “Jeri” Scott Gurley, age 88, of Calhoun, Georgia passed away on Thursday, August 7th, 2025 at her residence.
Mrs. Gurley was born in Gordon County on March 29th, 1937 to the late C.W Scott and the late Gladys Tatum Scott. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Bill Gurley; three brothers, Rayford Scott, Waymond Scott, and Kenneth Scott; one sister, Molene Glad. Mrs. Gurley was a lifelong resident of Gordon County and a graduate of Berry College, where she earned her degree in Early Childhood Education. She later received her Masters of Education degree at West Georgia College and Media Specialist Degree from Georgia State University. She enjoyed a distinguished career of 28 years as an educator with the Gordon County School System. After retiring, she devoted her time to tending her garden, volunteering with numerous charitable organizations, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Her surviving children include Gail Gurley (Carlos Quecan), Jan Gurley (Owen Linderholm), Dan Gurley (Anahid Ebrahimi) and Jill Moore (Paul); two brothers: Duane Scott and Clinton Scott; nine grandchildren: Andrew Quecan (Maria Rice), Nathan Quecan (Laura), Caroline McAteer (Brendan), David Quecan, Amelia Gurley, Grace Linderholm, Jasmine Gurley (Chandler Apple), Jacob Gurley, Noah Moore, and nine great-grandchildren.
A celebration of Jeri’s life will be held on Sunday, August 17th, 2025 at 2 PM in the chapel of Thomas Funeral Home with visitation from 1 until 2 PM.
Interment will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers include Dan Gurley, Chandler Apple, Paul Moore, Owen Linderholm, and Noah Moore.
