Jerome Edward “Jerry” Sinnott, 84, begrudgingly passed away on August 5, 2025 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born on September 22, 1940, the son of John Edward Sinnott and Margaret Alberstadt Sinnott.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Greg Sinnott, Trish Hardner, and Tom Sinnott.

Jerry is survived by his wife of almost 65 years, Mary Lou Sontheimer Sinnott, whom he lovingly called ‘Charlie’.

In their years together they raised four children, Kelly (Chuck) Caldwell, Jay (Kathi) Sinnott, Colleen (Mike) Gualtieri and Maureen(Todd) Fuller. Jerry is further survived by his twelve grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren, for which he has never been more proud. His siblings Terry Hess, Cheryl (Jeff) Heintz, brother-in-law Jeff Hardner, brother-in-law Robert ‘Bob’ Sontheimer, brother-in-law Scott ‘Sam’ (Vicki) Sontheimer and many nieces, nephews and lifetime friends.

Jerry was a 1958 graduate of Academy High School. As a young high schooler, he was in a doo-wop group called the Del-Rays and loved to recall memories of those times and proclaim, ‘those were the days’. In 1960 he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou, and began a life of family and work. He proudly served in the Marine Corps reserves for 6 years. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Lance Corporal. He was an apprentice electrician for IBEW Local 56, went on to become a Journeyman, was an IBEW board member, a member of the apprenticeship committee, and then, along with his wife, they operated a successful electrical contracting business, Lakes Electric, for more than 20 years until his retirement. After retirement Jerry never slowed down. He delivered flowers for a local florist and worked at Lowes Department store offering his years of electrical experience. Even into his late seventies he was still doing handyman work. He was a member of the Elks Club, East Erie Turner and South Erie Turner clubs. Jerry and Mary Lou loved camping and travelling as well. They visited all 50 states. Jerry was an avid boater, member of the ILYA and Power Squadron and a founding member of the Commodore Perry Yacht Club, where you could find him any chance he got. He was Commodore twice and would tell everyone that Erie really is the gem on the lake. For the last few years Jerry had significant health issues and setbacks but that never made him quit. If anything, it made him stronger. Jerry’s family would like to thank a few special people in his life that made his journey back to better health a wonderful experience.

Laurin, his care aid for the last 18 months, Terry and Leebo, his high school buddies and the therapists at UPMC rehabilitation at West 26th street. He loved his time spent with all of you and being able to chat and tell you his stories was the best medicine you could have ever given him. There truly are no words on how much this amazing, stubborn, tenacious man will be missed by his friends and family. Rest in peace, daddy. We love you.
