It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of beloved father and son, Jerome "Nyck" Nixon, on November 2, 2025, at the age of 63, Jefferson City. There was nothing more important to Jerome than being a devoted and loving father to his cherished son, Chazari "Chaz" Nixon. Jerome is survived by Chaz, his father, Nathaniel Nixon, his adopted son, Joshua Decker, his co-parenting partner, Julie Decker, and his siblings Daryl Nixon and Dianna Nixon. Jerome also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and mentees, including his childhood friend, Conney Hardy, and dear friends Mike and Lynn Bollinger. Jerome was predeceased by his mother, Verdell Nixon, whom he loved dearly.

?

Jerome was born on November 17, 1961, and was raised in Spring Valley, New York. He attended college at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri, where he not only excelled at playing football but was a talented artist, mentor and active member of the community. Jerome's combined passion for mentoring and sports was evident throughout his life. He was an avid sports fan with a deep love and passion for his home state of New York and its sports teams.

After graduation from college, Jerome made Jefferson City, Missouri his second home. He began working for Parks and Recreation, beginning as a part-time Baseball Coordinator and Field Supervisor, in May 1989. He later became a full-time Recreation Supervisor from August 1993 until August 1999. Jerome then took on a vital position as a Youth Specialist with the State of Missouri at the Fulton Center, where he supervised youth offenders, coordinating their treatment and rehabilitation. He was dedicated to the well-being of the youth in his care and also supervised staff members.

?

Jerome loved sports and was known for his creativity and leadership. Throughout his personal and professional life, he touched the lives of many with his kindness, charismatic nature, wisdom and unwavering commitment to helping others.

Jerome's legacy will forever be remembered in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he influenced. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered for his devotion to Chaz, his family and his passion for making a difference in the lives of others.

?

A Memorial Service to Celebrate Jerome's life will be held by his family and friends at a later date.

Rest in peace, Jerome. Your spirit will live on through the love you shared and the lives you changed. Your legacy will live forever through Chaz.

Chaz, I am saddened by the news of your father's passing. I know how much you loved and respected your Dad. I will pray for you as you grieve this loss. I treasured your Dad's friendship. I treasured the good times we spent together and the positive work you did. I know that God will hold you close. Hold on to the positive memories of your Dad. Your Dad was always proud of you for making good decisions about school, your family and your friends. Take care of yourself. Your Friend, Don
