Jerrilee Kubow, beloved by her family, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, in Escondido, California. She was born on December 13, 1929, in Long Beach, California. A child of the Great Depression, her early years were spent traveling between the Texas farm and California oil fields with her family. They finally landed in Los Angeles where Jerri played tennis and graduated from Narbonne High School in Lomita, CA.
Jerri first met Ed – her future husband – when she was the 10-years old. Her brother, Neal Mince, was one of his high school friends. Seven years later, after the war, when he returned to visit Neal, she'd grown up! Jerri and Ed were married in 1948 in Lomita, California. Together, they raised two children, Le'Ellen and Thomas. They were happily married for over 74 years.
A steadfast Marine Wife for 30 years, she orchestrated over a dozen moves, often across country, always making "home" wherever the family landed. Jerri kept home and family during 4 long military deployments, including two during the Viet Nam conflict. Besides keeping the home, Jerri was an active member of her church. When they retired to San Diego, Jerri had time to continue her education and become very active in her church. She graduated from Mesa College with an Associate degree. Jerri sang in the choir and became a Deacon, first in Northminster Presbyterian Church in Clairmont and then the Mira Mesa Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, bird watching, collecting and learning about hatpins and writing the tales of the family and her travels.
Jerri nurtured and taught her children well and always with a bit of fun. Her energy and enthusiasm were infectious! She taught them to love singing – popular and church music. She sang at home and in the car, teaching harmony while travelling. When her grandchildren were little, she cared for them while their parents were at work. They sang songs, read stories, spent time at museums on free-Tuesdays at Balboa Park, played at playgrounds, swam in the pool, and shared meals. She particularly loved the annual family tradition of gathering to sing Christmas carols. She enjoyed telling her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren stories about her many adventures, from childhood through her later years.
Jerri is loved and missed by children, Le' and Tom and his wife Terri, their children and their spouses and Jerri's great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church on July 26, 2025, at 11 am. Interment will be at the Miramar National Cemetery in August.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rancho Bernardo Community Presbyterian Church.
