Jerry Cecil Chilcutt, a cherished educator, musician, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2024, in Rector, Arkansas. Born on February 16, 1945, in Paragould, Arkansas, Jerry's life was a symphony of joy, laughter, and creativity that resonated with all who knew him.
Jerry's early years were spent in the nurturing care of his parents, Henry Cecil and Mae Williamson Chilcutt, alongside his aunt and uncle, Mary Williamson and William Edgar Wagner, all of whom preceded him in death. Jerry's formative years in Rector were filled with the sounds of music and the warmth of community, which would become the cornerstones of his life's work.
A proud graduate of Rector High School, Jerry's passion for music education led him to Arkansas State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Music Education. His dedication to fostering the love of music in young minds was evident in his nearly thirty-year tenure teaching elementary music for the North Pemiscot School District. Jerry's influence extended beyond the classroom as he served as the beloved organist for the Rector First United Methodist Church for an impressive 55 years, a testament to his commitment and musical talent. Jerry's life was marked by an adventurous spirit and a sense of humor that could light up any room. His love for travel took him to various countries, each journey enriching his life with new experiences and friendships. A simple pleasure he enjoyed was savoring a cold Dr. Pepper, a treat that became synonymous with Jerry's good company. His home in Rector was a hub of creativity and laughter, where he loved to spend time with his friends and former piano students. Jerry's involvement in the Exchange Student Program reflected his belief in cultural exchange and his desire to make the world a smaller, more connected place.
Jerry leaves behind a legacy of laughter, creativity, and adventure. He is survived by several cousins and a host of close friends whose lives he touched with his generous spirit and infectious enthusiasm for life. Jerry's absence will be deeply felt by the community he so lovingly served, and the melodies he shared will continue to echo in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
As we bid farewell to Jerry, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest, a life that was a beautiful composition of love, friendship, and music. His memory will be cherished and kept alive through the countless stories and melodies that he leaves behind. Jerry's journey through life was a testament to the power of a kind heart and a creative soul to make a lasting impact on the world.
Rest in peace, Jerry. Your song may have ended, but the melody lingers on.
Friends will gather on Sunday October 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Rector First United Methodist Church to celebrate a life well lived. A reception will follow in Wesley Fellowship Hall to allow time to share stories and memories.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rector Public Library, Woodland Heights Cemetery, the Rector Community Museum, or the Rector First United Methodist Church.
