Jerry Fortune Obituary
Jerry L. Fortune, age 80, of Canton, Ohio, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023. Jerry was born in Canton, Ohio to Joseph and Alicemae Fortune. He graduated from Canton South High School in 1961 and attended Kent State University. Jerry was employed at Norfolk & Southern and Wheeling & Lake Erie Railroads for over 32 years, and served as Chairman and President of Local #59 United Transportation Union.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Alicemae Fortune, his brother John Fortune, grandson Nathan Michael Kuty and son-in-law Rick Kuty. Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Tina (Papadopoulos) Fortune, daughter Diana Kuty and three grandchildren whom he adored, Megan, Alex and Nico Kuty. He is also survived by his sister Donna Heim, brother Jack (Marsha) Fortune, sister Cindy Fortune-Miner and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jerry was very active in his beloved Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church serving as Parish Council President, GOYA basketball coach, Director of Youth & Education Program, served as chairman of our church festival, President of AHEPAN Chapter #59 as well as being chosen AHEPAN of the Year, and recipient of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Pittsburgh St. Photios Award.
Jerry loved spending time fishing with lifelong friends, watching sports, spending time outside, and always helping others and being there for them. He loved his daughter Diana and son-in-law Rick with all his heart and nothing made him more happy than to spend time with them and his beautiful grandchildren. The best day was to see them participate and achieve in academics, sports and all church-related activities.
We want to thank the many doctors, nurses, physical therapists and home health care who have helped through some difficult times and also want to thank Bethany Nursing Home staff for their support, care and love these past two months.
Family and friends will be received Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church. Funeral services will begin in the church at 12 noon, with Rev. Fr. Nicholas Halkias officiating. Interment to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jerry's name may be made to Holy Trinity Youth and Education.

My thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
My memory of Jerry is, in the first grade at Prairie College, Jerry sang, "I'm Looking Over a Four Leaf Clover" to our class. So cute!
