Jerry Lee Hedgecock, 86, passed away on October 4 in his home surrounded by loved ones. He lived and loved big in all that he did. He was passionate, adventurous and, some would say, like a bull in a china shop.
Jerry was a dedicated civil servant for 35 years with the High Point Fire Department, retiring in 1993 as Captain.
In his retired years, he found much joy in God’s creation through farming, hunting and his cows. He was a generous neighbor, frequently sharing the fruits of his labor. Jerry was a member of Bunker Hill United Methodist Church and lived out his faith in active service to his church and community.
The family celebrates that he is now embarking on his next great adventure.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Gertrude Howell Hedgecock and J.H. Hedgecock, and brothers, John (Lois) Hedgecock and Kenneth Hedgecock. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Flynt Hedgecock; daughters, Crystal Hedgecock Caviness (special friend, Eric Nuckles) and Melissa Hedgecock Thompson (husband, Travis); grandchildren, Tyler Caviness (wife, Christy), Kelly Caviness (fiancé, Seth Delbridge), and Luke Thompson; great-granddaughters, Lyric and Nimuéh Woods; sisters-in-law, Carolyn Hedgecock and Kathy Flynt; and several nieces and nephews. The family gives special recognition to Vanessa Lockhart, Mike Hedgecock and Michael Hedgecock for their loving caregiving.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, with visitation from 1 to 2:45 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall. Everyone is invited to a Celebration of Life Barbecue immediately following the service at 4 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to Bunker Hill United Methodist Church, located at 1510 Bunker Hill-Sandy Ridge Road, Kernersville, N.C., 27284, and Hospice of the Piedmont.
