Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home and CrematoryMr. Jerry Samuel Henderson, age 85, of New Concord, passed away surrounded by family at 3:45 p.m. on August 22, 2025, at Genesis Hospice Morrison House in Zanesville. He was born on August 11, 1940, in Townsend, Tennessee, the son of the late Nina and Samuel Henderson.
Jerry graduated from Alcoa High School in 1958 and earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from East Tennessee State University. He continued his graduate studies at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where he was also an instructor. He remained a UT fan all his life. He moved to Zanesville in 1977, where he owned and operated Hopewell Oil & Gas.
He was an avid pilot and enjoyed the camaraderie at Parr Airport. He also loved to hunt and to join his loving wife, Jill, at Quarter Horse shows. He was a freemason, a member of the NRA, and a member of the Ohio Oil & Gas Association.
Jerry is survived by his wife Jill Henderson, of New Concord; sons Samuel (Anna) Henderson of Richmond, Texas, and Wesley (Mikayla) Lane of New Concord; daughters Laura (Josh) Brewer of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Julie Lane of Austin, Texas; grandchildren Amelia Henderson, Mitchell Henderson, Will Brewer, and Cleary Brewer. He is also survived by his sister, Jane (Robert) Webb of Hopewell; brothers-in-law Thomas (Melany) Smith of Erie, Pennsylvania, and Jeffrey Smith of New Concord; and many nieces and nephews.
The family is grateful to the staff at Genesis Hospital and the Morrison House and asks that any remembrance gifts be made to the Genesis Hospice.
A cremation will take place under the direction of BOLIN-DIERKES FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 1271 BLUE AVENUE, ZANESVILLE, and a celebration of life is planned for Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Bryan Place, located at 49 N 6th Street in Zanesville.
