Jerry Bruce Storey

Jerry Bruce Storey, 88, born and raised in Abilene Texas passed away peacefully at home in Flower Mound, Texas, surrounded by his family on Saturday June 14, 2025, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. Funeral services will be held at Zion Lutheran Church 2801 Antilley Rd. Abilene TX.79606 on Friday, June 20, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be on Thursday, June 19, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Elmwood Funeral Home 5750 HWY 277 South Abilene TX 79606

Born October 11, 1936, in Abilene, Texas to parents J.E Storey and Myrtle Hancock Storey. He graduated in 1954 from Abilene High School, the last graduating class at the South 1st location. He attended Hardin Simmons University for a year and a half when he and a friend decided to enlist in the Navy. He served eight years on various aircraft carriers. During this time he married his first wife, Rebecca Leach.

He returned to Abilene and graduated from Hardin Simmons University with a Bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biology. He worked as chemist for Gooch Packing Company, crude oil buyer for Pride Refinery, and lastly retired as an agent from Germania Insurance. He married his second wife, Sandra Schkade, in 1972 after meeting on a blind date. Between them they had four children.

A devout Christian, he was a member of Zion Lutheran church during which time he served in numerous leadership positions. He could always be counted on when the church needed any help.

Jerry never met a stranger, loved people and had a great sense of humor. He played baseball in Abilene city tournaments. He was an avid outdoors man and loved deer hunting, boating, and golfing. He loved to work in the yard and after retirement became a Master Gardner.

He was devoted to his family, and enjoyed going to all his kids and grandkids activities , which sometimes involved traveling.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He will be deeply missed and is survived by his wife, Sandra Schkade Storey of 53 years, daughter and son-in-law Gerri and Steve White of Nashville, TN and her daughters Brianna Comeaux and spouse Mark of Berwick, LA and their children Bryleigh and Briar, daughter Brittany Brasseaux of Metairie, LA; daughter Toni Storey of Lewisville, Tx; Son Shawn and wife Jill Storey currently of Tucson, AZ and their children Caroline of Arizona and Alice and Alice’s spouse Erin of Fords, NJ; daughter Tiffany Miller and husband Howard of Flower Mound, Tx and their children Taylor and Cason of Dallas; brother-in-law Brent Schkade of Abilene, and niece Kristi Schkade of Boston. He is also survived by one nephew, Mike Poer, and nieces Royanne Poer, Mary Clifford, Cindy Molidor, Missy Rucker and Pamela Nix.

Jerry is preceded in death by parents J.E. And Myrtle Storey, mother and father in-law Oscar and Nora Schkade, brother John Storey, M.D., and sister Pat Poer.
