Jerry Ward Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Burns Funeral Home of Perry on Mar. 12, 2026.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jerry Franklin Ward "Fat Man" and "Peter", a cherished father, grandfather, and friend of Perry, Florida, who entered eternal rest on March 11, 2026, at the age of 74. Born on August 2, 1951, in Perry, Jerry led a life marked by dedication to both his family and his community.
Jerry was a beloved figure in Taylor County, known not only as a hardworking business owner but also as a warm-hearted neighbor. His lawn service company was a testament to his commitment to beautifying the community he loved, reflecting his deep-rooted values of service and care for those around him.
Beyond his professional life, Jerry found joy in the simple pleasures of nature. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, often spending his days in the serene woods of Taylor County, where he cherished every moment in the great outdoors. These experiences fueled his spirit, connecting him deeply with the land and the community he called home.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Tom Ward and Maude Ward; and his brother, Tommy Ward "Man".
Jerry is survived by his sisters, Martha Bethea (Sutter), Ellen "Pumpkin" Coxwell (Jimmy), and Alice "Dump" Winstead (Mike); his significant other of 55 years, Ann Wheelus; his three sons, Jerry Ward (Susan), John Ward (Wendy), and Peter Ward (Heather); his grandson/ son TomTom Ward (Crystal "Butterbean"); 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and also his dedicated caretaker, Kattee Parker. All who will forever remember him for his kind heart, unwavering dedication, and the laughter he brought into their lives. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched through his work and his infectious love for the outdoors.
His Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Loved ones and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Jerry's life and share memories of a remarkable man who always put others first.
In this time of sorrow, we remember Jerry not just for the achievements in his life, but for the love and joy he spread throughout the community. May he rest in peace, forever in our hearts.
