Jhondia "Jo" Griffin Garrett, age 90, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025. She was born on February 19, 1935, in Searcy, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Libert Griffin and Clara Fife Griffin.
Jo lived a life marked by kindness, faith, and devotion to her family. A longtime member of New Hope Methodist Church, she served faithfully in many roles over the years and found joy in helping wherever she was needed.
In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Jo worked in several caring professions throughout her life. She served as a nurse's aide in multiple nursing homes and enjoyed her time as a beautician, where she built lasting friendships and brightened the lives of many. Jo was known for her creativity and loved expressing it through arts and crafts. She also had a deep appreciation for traveling and seeing new places, especially when shared with loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lt. Colonel Norris Aaron Garrett; her son, Britt Allen Garrett; her sisters, Addline Henderson, Pansy Carter, Inez Bittle, and Mildred Boyer; her brothers, Robert Griffin and Waymon Griffin; and her parents.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jerry D. Garrett and his wife, Leigh Bolding Garrett, of Yorktown, Virginia; Barry H. Garrett and his wife, Patricia Reed Garrett, of Aiken, South Carolina; and Debra A. Garrett Nowacki of Carrollton, Georgia. Jo's legacy also lives on through her grandchildren: Christopher Garrett of Yorktown, Virginia; Dr. Kenneth Garrett and his wife, Dr. Sherin Abraham, of Glen Mills, Pennsylvania; Laura Garrett Chapman and her husband, Lt. Colonel Matthew Chapman, of Aviano, Italy; Ryan Garrett of Boulder, Colorado; Lindsey Garrett of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Jacob Nowacki, Sierra Nowacki, and Shayla Nowacki, all of Carrollton, Georgia; and her great-grandchildren, Levi, Dane, Amelia, Owen, and Logan.
Those who knew Jo will remember her for her gentle spirit, her creative hands, and her unconditional love for her family. Her warmth and kindness will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home.
A funeral service will be held to honor and celebrate her life on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home, with Rev. Jimmy Bryan and Pastor Allen Hunt officiating. Interment will follow in New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery.
