JO ANN AUBEL
Mrs. Jo Ann Aubel of
Addieville, IL departed this life in the Friendship Manor Health Care Center in
Nashville, IL on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 5:40 P.M. following a courageous battle against cancer. She had attained the age of 78 years, 1 month, and 17 days.
Jo Ann was born in Parkin, AR on October 1, 1945, the daughter of James Vernon and Estelle (nee Srum) Green. She was united in marriage to David Aubel in Cardwell, MO on June 18, 1967, and he survives her passing.
Jo Ann attended elementary school and high school in Cardwell. She earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education and English from Arkansas State University in 1967. Her and Dave lived in Pineville, LA for four years while Dave was serving in the United States Air Force. During this time, she taught high school in Buckeye, LA. In 1969 she coached the girls' basketball team to the Louisiana Class A State Championship. In 1970, Jo and Dave welcomed a son Bryan, to the household. 1971 saw them return to Addieville and their daughter Malia was born in 1973. At this time, Jo Ann was teaching in the West Washington County District 10 school system, until her retirement in 2001. While teaching, she coached various girls' athletic teams. After retiring from teaching, she helped with bookkeeping etc. at the family business, Addieville Lumber Company until earlier this year.
Jo Ann loved her family, especially her five grandchildren Kylie, Max, Declan, Will, and Brannon. She liked to go to any type of ballgame, and she loved traveling with her husband Dave on the Lumbermen's Tours throughout the United States and the trip through Europe that she took with Dave. She loved her church family very much and looked forward to seeing them each and every Sunday. She especially loved listening to her late grandson Max preach the word of God.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Max Aubel; two sisters, Florence Gatling and Skeet Green; and a brother-in-law, John Bischof.
Left to mourn her passing is her husband of 56 years David Aubel of Addieville; two children, Bryan Aubel and wife Patty of Addieville and Malia Maynard of
Denver, NC; four grandchildren, Will Aubel, and Kylie, Declan, and Brannon Maynard; Max's widow, Hannah Aubel; one sister, Kitty Sue Kelley and husband Mike and their son, Kacey of Huntsville, AL; two sisters-in-law, Cheryl Bischof of
Canton, GA and Michelle Meentemeyer and husband Steve of Addieville; other relatives as well as a host of friends.
Funeral Services will be held from the Centralia Church of Christ at 1640 E McCord in
Centralia, IL on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at 10 A.M. with Stephen Nail officiating. Interment will be in the Zion Cemetery in Addieville.
Friends may call at the Campagna Funeral Home in Okawville on Tuesday from 5 P.M. until 8 P.M. and at the church on Wednesday from 9:00 A.M. until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the
American Cancer Society or to the West Washington County Unit School District #10 Scholarship Fund and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home.
