Joan "Cookie" Fedun
It is with tremendous sadness that the family of Joan "Cookie" Fedun announce her passing on January 24, 2023. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on March 5, 1929 and passed away at 93 years old surrounded by her family and listening to her favorite artist, Garth Brooks.
Cookie worked first in the service industry waiting on members of the Brooklyn Dodgers (the 'real' Dodgers as she called them), and later had a career as a school administrator for Monticello Central Schools in upstate New York. In 1996, after the death of her husband, Bernard Fedun, Cookie moved to South Florida and became the "driver's valet" at the Pompano Park Harness Track.
Cookie had one of the biggest hearts and was a friend to all. She woke each morning with a smile on her face (not an easy feat in a family of night owls) and loved and supported her family. Cookie joined the U.S. Air Force Auxiliary, Civil Air Patrol, with her grandson Dan in 2004 and earned the rank of First Lieutenant and served as Leadership Officer and Liaison to the Color Guard of the Coral Springs Cadet Squadron. Cookie had a significant impact on the lives of young people for generations.
Cookie was a sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, cancer survivor, watcher of every Law & Order episode ever, dessert fanatic, and so much more.
She is survived by her daughter Ann Mari Daley and son-in-law, Dan Daley; her grandchildren Dan Daley, Brent Starr, Jr., Ashley Starr, and Jamie Gilmour; Jamie's husband Dale Gilmour; and her great grandchildren Gage, Morgan, and Mackenzie. She was predeceased by her daughter Suzanne Starr.
A Family Hosted Celebration of Life will be held on March 5, 2023 from 1pm-4pm at the Coral Springs Country Club, 10800 West Sample Road, Coral Springs, FL 33065. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Veterans Coalition of Coral Springs. Funds received will be donated to the "First Lieutenant Joan 'Cookie' Fedun Cadet Leadership Fund" to provide uniforms and scholarships for Civil Air Patrol Cadets in need. Please add "Lt.
