Joan (Kennedy) Matson, 92, of Brookville, PA, formerly of East Butler, PA, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, while a resident at McKinley Health Center. She was born on June 11, 1931, to the late William and Verona (Anthony) Kennedy in East Butler, PA. Joan graduated from Butler High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She worked as a nurse and subsequently retried from the Brookville Area School System. Joan married David Gale Matson, on August 24, 1956, in East Butler at the Presbyterian Church; David preceded her in passing on October 24, 2002. She and her late husband, David, enjoyed many things together and worked tirelessly to create a loving home. Joan was a member of the Brookville First Methodist Church, Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Organization for Women Educators, as well as a member of the Brookville Hospital Auxiliary. As a pastime, she enjoyed golfing with her family and friends. She also enjoyed playing bridge with friends. Joan loved to travel whenever she could, and especially looked forward to her annual beach trips with her family. Joan also enjoyed sewing where she donated her time making costumes for the high school musicals, quilts with church members as a mission project, and various other community volunteer work. She loved music and especially enjoyed singing and watching her family perform. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and loved them beyond measure. Joan will be dearly missed by her family. Joan is survived by three children; Lisa (Jerry) Goodrick; Leah (Joel) Magagnotti; Mary (James Rowan) Matson; eight grandchildren; Dante (Mariah) Magagnotti; Mario (Angela) Magagnotti; Meleigha (Jarrod Goodman) Magagnotti; Danielle (Dan) Odahowski; Dave Goodrick; John Goodrick; Grace Rowan; John Rowan; and eight great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Joan was preceded in passing by three brothers; Anthony (Winnie) Kennedy; Vance (Helen) Kennedy; and Dale Kennedy, who was KIA during WWII. Family and friends will be received on Monday, February 5, 2024, from 4pm to 8pm at the McKinney d'Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main Street, Brookville, PA 15825. A second visitation will take place on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at the Brookville First Methodist Church, 205 Jefferson St., Brookville, PA 15825, from 10am to 11am. A funeral service will take place immediately following the second visitation, beginning at 11am and officiated by Pastor Joe Short.
