Joan C. (Harrison) Orndorff, age 94, of Hanover, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on November 2, 2024. She was the loving wife of the late Germanus "Gerry" W. Orndorff, Sr. who passed away in 2020; together they shared 68 years of marriage.
Joan was born in Patterson, NJ. She graduated from York Catholic High School Class of 1948 and attended St. Jospeh College in Emmittsburg, MD. She worked as a bookkeeper for Lana Lobell, R.H. Sheppard, and Radio Hanover prior to retiring. Joan was an avid reader and gardener and always enjoyed being outdoors in her garden. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hanover where she was a former Cub Scout Den Mother and served on the Council of Catholic Women. She was also a member of Grandview Seniors Club and the Hanover Elks ladies Auxiliary.
Joan is survived by three sons, Germanus Orndorff Jr. of Waynesboro, VA, Ronald Orndorff and wife Leslie of Glenville, and Andrew Orndorff and wife Patricia of Biglerville; four grandchildren, Tonia Orndorff, India Duvall, Germanus Orndorff, III, and Leo Orndorff; three step-grandchildren Nicholas Millhimes, Joshua and Emily Leppo; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews. Joan was preceded in death by her brothers William, Warren, and Franklin Harrison.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at 10:00AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 5055 Grandview Rd., Hanover, PA 17331, with Rev. Michael Rhotan as celebrant. Interment will be held privately by the family at Annunciation B.V.M. Cemetery in McSherrystown. Friends and relatives are invited to attend her viewing on Wednesday from 5:00PM to 7:00PM at Murphy-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., 501 Ridge Ave., McSherrystown with prayers at 7:00 PM.
